Spiritual Energy of the Second Coming

Is Christ consciousness here? Well if not in body, then certainly in spirit. The Second Coming of Christ is mentioned in the New Testament. It’s not said when, but the end of the Mayan calendar at 2012 could indicate the end of the piscean age, and the dawn of the aquarian age.

Second Coming Return of Christ

Even before 2012 a shift was gaining momentum with the spiritual awakening of millions of people all over the world. Still, it’s not this way with all people. We know that two people witnessing the same event will not describe the event in exactly the same way. Each person has their own biases and their own perception of what’s noteworthy. One person sees spiritual sign-posts as ideas without wings while another person sees the promise of tangible change.

When Jesus Christ said “Let those who have eyes, see. Let those who have ears, hear”, he was referring to people who are open to perceive a greater reality. This saying is just as relevant today.

His spirit came from the universal consciousness that we are all a part of and is why he said we are all brothers and sisters. We are all sons and daughters of the Kingdom of God. I believe that when Jesus came as the Christ in a physical body he wanted to wake us up to our origin so we would continue to create our world in the most fruitful way.

But after his death his message was adopted into the religious authority structures and much of its richness watered down. The focus was on faith, obedience, and following a leader. It slowly unravelled the confidence people had in their own capacities – like discernment, purpose, self discipline, intuition.

It has carried over to the modern day and has made many people fear that they are no more than a drop in the ocean, a brick in the wall of the greater God consciousness. It was this impression that kept me away from religion and spirituality for all my young adult life.

The great spiritual teacher of the early 20th century, Paramahansa Yogananda, author of the best-selling spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi, speaks of the capacity we all have to be Christed Beings. Each human soul has the Divine Spark. If that spark can be ignited then we have the capacity to become Christ-like.

So the Second Coming may not be about another visit from Jesus in the flesh, the personality. According to the Gnostics, His crucifixion was meant to set an example to all of us of death to the ego signified by His physical body being nailed to the cross. While it seems a tragically violent way to portray this, I believe it was necessary so that the message would not be forgotten over the Ages.

If Jesus came again, He would very soon find himself nailed to the cross again because the same types of people who crucified him back then are alive today. Look at the systemic oppression and killing in China of the practitioners of Falun Gong.

It is my belief that today it’s different. We are not going to be given an exalted leader to follow like sheep again. We are supposed to do the spiritual work on ourselves, for ourselves and by ourselves. This is unbeatable.

Individuality was not on people’s radar in the days when Jesus walked the earth. Understandably, the toughness of life back then meant people had to be more collective about their thinking to survive, multiply and prosper.

What’s different today is that basic survival needs are met (and exceeded) and we are able to pursue higher actualisations – like purpose and meaning in life and self responsibility.

We have the luxury of thinking like individuals and expressing a need for that. So naturally many people feel that spirituality is not for them because it would force them into a melting pot of mass consciousness.

This is where a most important aspect has been left out from religion – the evolution of human consciousness. It is not necessary to forego our identity to become spiritually awake, instead we are now at a stage of development (collectively) where we need the Individualised Self to co-create the next round of universal experiences, and to solve the problems we have inherited from the old world.
